Since late last year, WhatsApp has added several new features focused on improving groups and communities on its platform. Earlier this year, we also got the news that the messaging giant, which belongs to Meta, is adding support for up to 32 users for group calls along with a new UI. Also, we're seeing the company test a new group poll feature and the ability to silently leave groups.
And currently, WhatsApp is developing another group feature that will allow group admins to manually approve membership. Here's the full news!
According to the latest news from the leading WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, the admin approval feature for membership was spotted in the latest WhatsApp Android beta version 2.22.14.6.
In this update, it is seen that WhatsApp has added a new gender-neutral emoji as well as a new Group Membership Agreement feature which is useful for preventing users from joining WhatsApp groups via an invite link without group admin approval.
This feature is in group settings, and admins can enable or disable it for their WhatsApp groups. Once enabled, group members will get a notification, announcing that the group admin has enabled "admin approval" to join the group. You can preview the news about the new feature in the screenshot below.
After enabling the new feature for groups, users who get an invite link to join a WhatsApp group will need manual approval by the group admin. Group admins will also get a new dedicated section for managing incoming join requests from users on the group info page.
WABetaInfo says that the feature is currently under development and will be released with future updates. So stay tuned for more updates, and let us know what you think about the new Group Membership Consent feature on WhatsApp in the comments below.
